Trans resources in Houston

Care, housing help, youth support and community for trans and nonbinary Houstonians.

If you need help right now

Call or text 988 at any hour to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. For local support, the Montrose Center is at 713-529-0037. If you are a survivor of sexual assault or domestic violence and live in Texas, the LGBT Switchboard crisis hotline is open 24 hours a day at 713-529-3211. Our Health + Help Resources page lists more.

Gender-affirming health care

Legacy Community Health runs a transgender specialty care program. Its services include hormone treatment, well-person exams, STD testing and social services. To reach Legacy, call 832-548-5000 for medical care or 832-548-5014 for behavioral health.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is listed by Harris County as a provider of gender-affirming hormone therapy, alongside its wider sexual health services. We could not read Planned Parenthood's own site when we last checked, so please confirm the service with your local health center.

Laws and clinic policies around gender-affirming care in Texas can change quickly, and the rules may be different for people under 18. Before you book, ask each provider what it currently offers for your age, whether it takes your insurance, and what you need to bring. If a service on this page has changed, please let us know so that we can correct it.

Mental health and everyday support

The Montrose Center offers counseling, substance use treatment and support groups for LGBTQ+ people. It is also a good place to ask about trans-specific groups, since program schedules shift during the year. Legacy's behavioral health line, listed above, is another route to counseling. For free HIV and STI testing and PrEP, see our guide to testing in Houston, which lists hours and phone numbers for each clinic.

Housing, food and emergency help

The Mahogany Project is run by and for transgender and nonbinary people, with a focus on trans people of color. Harris County lists its services as emergency housing navigation, a food pantry, a clothing closet and case management. You can ask for help through the request form on its website. The group does not publish a street address or phone number, so the website is the way to reach it. It is holding Black Trans Empowerment Week from Nov 15 to 21, 2026.

Young people ages 14 to 25 can get drop-in support from Tony's Place, which helps LGBTQ+ youth including those experiencing homelessness. Call or text 713-678-0733. Group support runs Monday through Friday from 11 AM to noon, and basic needs help follows from noon to 2 PM. Case management is available by appointment. Harris County's listing gives the age range as 13 to 25, so call to check if you are 13.

For youth and families

Hatch Youth, a free program of the Montrose Center, runs groups for LGBTQ+ young people ages 7 to 24. Hatch Jr. is for ages 7 to 12 with a parent, Hatch Youth is for ages 13 through high school, and Hatched Out is for ages 18 to 24. It is a good starting point for a young person who is exploring their identity, and for parents who want to meet other families.

Community and getting involved

Support is about more than services. The Mahogany Project runs social spaces and advocacy work, and HRC Houston offers volunteer opportunities. Pride Houston's festival and parade is set for June 26, 2027. For places to go out, see our nightlife page, and keep an eye on our events calendar.

We list an organization here only when we can confirm what it does from a reliable source, so this page is deliberately short. If you know a trans-led group, a clinic or a support circle that belongs here, please submit it with a link. You can browse every listing in this category in our trans care and support directory.
