Lesbian and sapphic Houston

Bars, sports, music, health care and community for queer women and sapphic Houstonians.

Start at Pearl Bar

If you only make one stop, make it Pearl Bar. It opened in 2013, founded by Julie Mabry, and Visit Houston describes it as one of only two lesbian bars still operating in Texas. In 2026 Pearl moved from its old home to a much larger site at 2811 Washington Ave, on a property of about 1.25 acres with a concert lawn. If an older guide gives you a different address, use this one.

The weekly calendar is built for joining in. Tuesday has trivia from 6 to 8 PM and Queen Karaoke from 9 to 11 PM. Wednesday has Pop the Balloon from 8 to 10 PM. Thursday starts with steak night at 6 PM and moves on to Drag Bingo at 9 PM. Sunday Funday runs from 6 PM to 1 AM. Pearl is open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday, and its schedule can change, so check its website or Instagram before you go.

Watch the game at Side Peace

Side Peace, on the same property as Pearl, is Houston's first women's sports bar. It opened in February 2025. The screens show women's sports every day from 5 to 10 PM, and after the games end, it turns into a dance bar. That makes it a natural first stop on a night at Pearl, and a good place to find people who care about the same teams as you.

Beyond the bars

Not everyone wants to meet people over a drink, and Houston has other options. Music is a long-standing way in: the Bayou City Women's Chorus, founded in 2005, is part of Bayou City Performing Arts. We could not reach that group's website at our last check, so look for its concert news through OutSmart or social media. Pride Chorus Houston has been singing since 1979 and has a free concert at Discovery Green on Dec 19, 2026.

For LGBTQ+ sports, Varsity Bar serves as a home base for local leagues, and our sports directory lists what we know about. Reading OutSmart is also a good way to keep up, since it posts a list of queer things to do each Thursday.

Health care and support

Lesbian Health Initiative, established in 1992, works to remove barriers to care for LGBTQ+ women, and it now operates through the Montrose Center. The center itself offers counseling, support groups and free HIV testing. Legacy Community Health and Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast provide wider health services. If you need someone to talk to urgently, our Health + Help Resources page has crisis numbers, including 988, which you can call or text at any hour.

Dates for your calendar

The biggest sapphic night on the Pride calendar is Eden, Pride Houston's official Women+ party. It is listed for Friday, June 25, 2027, from 9 PM, for ages 21 and over, with tickets at $15. The venue has not been announced. The following day brings the main Houston Pride festival and parade downtown.

Community fundraisers are worth watching too. Out at the Rodeo has held events at Pearl in the past, including Pink Pony Pearl, and it publishes its plans through the year on its page here and on its own site. For anything else, our events calendar is updated as dates are confirmed.

New in town?

The simplest approach is to go to a weeknight game or trivia night at Pearl, where it is easy to arrive alone. From there, it is worth asking the regulars what they recommend, since a lot of social life happens in groups and pop-ups that never reach a listings page. OutSmart's Thursday list is another good way to spot them. If you run one and want it listed, please submit it.
